This policy explains how the MahaJyotish Android app ("the App", "we") handles your
information. The App is operated by MahaJyotish (mahajyotish.com). By using the App you
agree to this policy. Creating a birth chart does not
require an account — signing in with Google is optional.
1. Information the App Collects
- Birth details — the name, date of birth, time of birth and birth place you enter — sent to our servers only to calculate your Kundli, matching and Sade Sati results.
- WhatsApp number (optional) — only if you type it, used to deliver your report. The App does not read your phone number automatically; it only pre-fills your country calling code from your SIM.
- Google account (optional) — if you tap "Continue with Google", we receive your name, email address and profile photo to create and identify your account and to unlock your full report. You can sign out at any time.
- Location (optional) — only when you tap "Use my location" or open the Vastu Compass. Location is used on your device to fill your birth place (via reverse geocoding) and to show compass directions. If you allow it, your location is also sent to our server and stored: with precise location permission that is your GPS position (coordinates, accuracy in metres and the time of the fix); with approximate location permission Android gives us only a position a few kilometres wide, and that is what we store — we never upgrade it. The Rajpath and Dinaphal readings open only with a location, because sunrise, your planetary hour, Panchang and the day’s timings are calculated for exactly where you are. We also use it to tell you when you live far from your birth place, and the MahaJyotish team can see a member’s latest position (on a map) when they help with a reading, a remedy delivery or a call. We keep the latest position and a log of moves of 25 km or more; we do not build a movement history. You can refuse, or turn it off at any time in your phone’s settings, and the app still works. Location is never tracked in the background, never shared with anyone, and is not used for advertising.
- Payment information — payments are made via UPI in your own UPI/banking app. We do not collect or store your card numbers or banking credentials.
- Technical data — IP address and basic request data, used for security and to prevent abuse.
- Smriti diary (optional, only when signed in) — what you choose to write in Smriti: text, daily ratings (Sandhya Chintan), intentions (Sankalp), gratitude lines, life events, voice notes (Vani) and photos (Chitra). It is stored privately on our servers, linked to your account, and used only to show you your own diary, reminders and personal patterns (Atma Darpan, Masik Patra). It is never sold, shared or used for advertising. Photos and voice notes are kept outside our public website and opened only through short-lived private links.
- Lakshmi Kosh money records (optional) — the income and expense entries you type yourself (amount, category, who was paid, payment mode, notes and an optional bill photo), your monthly limit and the cash amount you count. The App does not read your SMS, bank or UPI accounts.
- Microphone — used only while you tap the record button for a voice note or the microphone for voice typing. Voice typing uses your phone's own speech-recognition service (for example Google speech services on Android), which processes the audio under that provider's privacy policy; only the resulting text is placed in your diary, and only if you save it. For an ordinary customer, nothing is recorded in the background.
- Team members — recording work calls — this applies only to MahaJyotish team members (for example a telecaller) who have been given a calling role, and never to an ordinary customer. When a team member rings a customer from the App's work screen, the call may be recorded — either by the phone's own call recorder or, using a foreground-service microphone while the call is in progress, by the App itself — so the conversation can be checked for quality and used to train the team. The customer is told at the start of the call that it is being recorded. On such a device the App reads the phone's saved call recordings (audio files) only to upload the recording of the call that was just made, matched to that customer; it does not read your other audio or music. Recordings are stored securely on our own servers, are never shared with any third party, and a written transcript is produced on our own servers (no external service). A team member can ask us to delete a recording at any time.
- Camera and photos — used only when you take or pick a photo for your diary or a bill.
- Fingerprint / face lock (optional, "Guptata") — checked entirely on your device by Android. We never receive or store any biometric data.
- App usage analytics — a random identifier created by the App (not your phone's hardware ID or advertising ID), the screens you open, time spent in the App, the App version, and errors or failed/slow requests; if you are signed in, your account email is attached. Used only to fix problems and improve the App — never sold or used for advertising.
- On-device data — the charts you create are saved locally on your device so the App works offline. This stays on your device unless you sign in to sync it.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To calculate and show your Kundli, Kundli Matching, Sade Sati, Numerology and Vastu results
- To generate and let you download or share your PDF report
- To attach your charts to your account when you choose to sign in
- To process payments you make for premium reports or services
- To send optional daily reminder notifications, which you can turn off in the App
- To keep your Smriti diary and Lakshmi Kosh records, and to show you your own streak (Tapasya), monthly letter and patterns — calculated only from your own entries
- To understand which parts of the App work well and which cause trouble, so we can fix them
- To keep the service secure and to provide support
3. Notifications
If you enable "Daily reminder", the evening diary reminder (Sandhya Smaran) or the morning intention reminder (Prabhat Smaran), the App schedules a reminder on your device. These are
local notifications generated on your phone. You can turn them off any time from the
Account screen or your device settings.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Google — to verify your sign-in when you choose "Continue with Google".
- Our hosting & infrastructure providers — who store the data needed to run the service.
- Payment providers (PhonePe and your UPI app) — only the order amount and reference needed to complete a payment you start.
- Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform) — only if you give a WhatsApp number, to deliver your report and order messages.
- Map/geocoding services — the place you type is sent, through our servers, to a geocoding provider so we can find its coordinates.
Some screens open pages from mahajyotish.com inside the App (for the full reading, payment
and web tools). Those pages are governed by our website Privacy Policy and may use cookies.
5. Data Security & Retention
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data and transmit it over encrypted
HTTPS connections. We keep your birth details and account information for as long as your
account is active or as needed to provide the service, and delete or anonymise it on request. Smriti diary entries, photos, voice notes and Lakshmi Kosh records are kept until you delete them (each entry can be deleted in the App) or delete your account.
6. Deleting Your Account & Data
In the App: open Account and choose Delete account. This immediately deletes your account, birth charts, Smriti diary (entries, photos and voice notes), Lakshmi Kosh records and App usage analytics linked to you. Any single diary entry can also be deleted at any time by opening it and choosing Delete. Payment and invoice records are kept, unlinked from you, where Indian tax law requires. You can delete the locally saved charts inside the App at any time (long-press a chart in
"Saved"). To delete your account and the personal data associated with it, email
info@mahajyotish.com
from your registered email with the subject "Delete my account". We will remove your account
data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records for legal or accounting
reasons.
7. Children
The App is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not
knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this
page with a new "Last updated" date.
