The 45 Devatas of the Vastu Purusha Mandala

Every part of a plot is governed by a devata. The mandala holds 45 devatas — 32 on the outer border (the entrance/Paishacha devatas), 12 inner devatas, and Brahma at the centre. Here is each one, its direction and its meaning.

◆ Brahma — the Centre (Brahmasthan)

The creator (Dhata), lord of the central nine padas. Brahma is the “lung” of the building — this zone must be kept open, light and unbuilt. Loading it with weight, toilets or a staircase disturbs the whole home.
