Name Numerology: The Chaldean System
Your date of birth is fixed, but your name carries its own vibration — one you can actually tune. Learn the Chaldean letter values and how to read any name.
So far we have worked with the numbers in your date of birth. But the name you carry every day also vibrates with a number. In the Chaldean system — the oldest and most respected method — each letter is given a value from 1 to 8 based on its sound. The number 9 is held sacred and is never assigned to a letter.
The Chaldean letter values
| Value | Letters |
|---|---|
| 1 | A, I, J, Q, Y |
| 2 | B, K, R |
| 3 | C, G, L, S |
| 4 | D, M, T |
| 5 | E, H, N, X |
| 6 | U, V, W |
| 7 | O, Z |
| 8 | F, P |
Calculating a name number
Write your name as you commonly use it, swap each letter for its value, add them, and reduce to a single digit — while also noting the two-digit compound number, which Chaldean numerology values highly.
R(2) + A(1) + M(4) = 7
Name number = 7 (Ketu — spiritual, intuitive).
S(3) + U(6) + N(5) + I(1) + L(3) = 18 → 1 + 8 = 9
Compound 18, single digit 9 (Mars — energy, drive).
Then read the meaning of that number from Part 2 of this course — because every number is a planet, the name number colours how the world responds to your name.
Harmonising the name with your birth numbers
The most useful idea in name numerology is harmony. Compare your name number with your Driver (Mulank) and Destiny (Bhagyank) numbers from Part 1, using the friendship grid from Part 3.
Friendly: when the name number is friendly to your Driver/Destiny, the name supports your nature — it works with you.
Clashing: when they clash, some people adjust the spelling they use commonly (add or drop a letter) so the name number shifts to a friendlier value. The legal name need not change — the commonly-used form carries the vibration.
